Salabat Khan Tomb (Chand Bibi mahal) – It is located on a hill 6 miles from the city. The magnificent structure is visible from miles away. It is octogonal shaped and made of black stones. It is mistakenly referred to as “Chand Bibi mahal” mostly because she was and still is considered as a famous female muslim warrior from this land. This structure is the tomb of Salabat Khan II, the famous minister of the fourth Nizam Shah, Murtuza.
Ahmednagar Fort – The third Nizam Shah Hussain who ascended the throne in the15th century was constantly at war with his neighbours. To strengthen his defense he commissioned Portuguese engineers to build a strong fort on the mud edifice built by his grandfather. It is oval in shape and a mile in circumference. The elders in Ahmednagar consider it as a marvel of engineering as one cannot see the fort from a mile away. It remains hidden unless one gets close to the site. The duke of Wellington considered this fort to be the strongest that he has ever seen. Padit JawaharLal Nehru was put in prison in this fort in 1942. He wrote the book, Discovery of India in this period.
Tank Museum – the museum is approximately 5 kms away from the city on the Solapur road. It is considered as the biggest outdoor tank museum in Asia. It houses tanks from World War I to the “Vijayanta tank” which played a major role in the 1971 India Pakistan war. The museum is run by the Indian Army and therefor one can expect high quality of discipline and cleanliness at this place. The placard placed near the tanks give brief history about the tanks.
Faria Bagh (Farah Bagh) – This structure served as a centre of the palace of the royal family of MurtuzaNiza Shah. Now in ruins, it had a pond on all the eight sides of the structure. To this day it is a marvel of architecture and one cannot be gets mesmerized thinking of the leisure and lifestyle these royal’s enjoyed.
Shani Shignapur –Shani Shingnapur is a village in Ahmednagar district and has a temple dedicated to Lord Shani. The homes in this village have no doors and locks. The villagers believe that Lord Shani saves their houses from any kind of theft. The history of this place goes like this. A shepherd found an Idol during the flood in the stream. One of the villager had a dream that this idol was of Lord Shani. The villagers decided to build a temple which is today world famous and tourists and pilgrims visit this place for fulfilling their wishes.
Alamgir – Alamgir is the place near Bhingar in Ahmednagar where the last Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb died. His body was take to Auragabad for burial. This place houses a Masjid which has rare copies of Quran and also a Quran handwritten by Aurangzeb himself.
Datta Devsthan – DattaDevsthan is a big temple situated on Savedi Road, near Premdan square.
Meherabad – It is the Samadhi of the spiritual teacher Meher Baba. This place is near Arangaon village, 9 kms from the city of Ahmednagar. This place is visited by thousands each year. It has place of worship as well as accommodations from pilgrims. It has free dispensary and school. The Meher pilgrim centre and Meher Pilgrim Retreat are open to the public. This place attracts many western tourists because of large number of western followers of Meher Baba.
Shirdi– A village 83 kms from Ahmednagar is one of the most famous pilgrimage centres in India. People from all over the country visit this holy place for pilgrimage and prayers.
Burhannagar Devi temple – It is a famous temple,near the main town, dedicated to an Indian Goddess TuljaBhavani Mata. It is considered as her paternal home. This place becomes a place of activity during the Navratri days.
